About Me
Olivier Van Neste (born 19 January 1975 in Oostende, Belgium) is a contemporary painter. Working with traditional watercolor on cold-pressed cotton paper, he is best known for impressionistic landscapes and seascapes, primarily realized in small to medium-sized formats. His work is characterized by a restrained use of washes and a reduced visual language, with an emphasis on atmosphere, light, and stillness within coastal and oceanic environments.
He practice centers on moments encountered during travel, particularly in remote coastal regions connected to surf journeys. Rather than depicting surfing itself, his paintings focus on the surrounding landscapes, cultural traces, and quiet transitions that frame these experiences. Using his own reference photography, he distills scenes to their essential elements, favoring simplicity and balance over descriptive detail. This approach reflects an interest in ways of living shaped by distance from urban intensity and by sustained contact with natural environments.
His work is collected by various private national and international collections, including collectors in Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, and Indonesia.
